The Givens Estates has an internship position available for a Natural Resources Crew Member. Work training areas will include, but are not limited to: the proper pruning, installation, and upkeep of trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plant material; management of native meadows; invasive exotic plant control; construction and maintenance of campus hiking trails; and small scale forest thinning. The successful candidate will also possess an exemplary work ethic, an eagerness to learn, and be willing to work in extreme weather conditions. Scheduled work will occur Monday through Thursday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Pay will be commensurate with experience. This position is open until filled and will continue for 13 weeks. Scheduled work will occur Monday through Thursday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. 20-40 hours per week in no less than 4 hour blocks is required; specific hours will be discussed with the candidate. This is a non-benefited position.
Requirements: The ideal intern candidate will possess, or will be pursuing a A.A./B.S./B.A. degree in Ecology, Environmental Biology, or related, or a minimum of 2 years field experience. Chainsaw certifications, trail work experience, and/or having a NC pesticide applicators license a plus.
