The Garden City Chapel Camp is non-denominational and serves 10,000 - 12,000 youth each year. Since the early 1950s, it has provided a week of camp to children's homes at no cost.
12 Givens residents from 3 campuses, plus 4 staff, met 14 other people to participate in preparing the camp for the summer sessions. The Givens Estates woodworkers made 17 cypress Adirondack chairs for the camp to help stimulate better group discussions for campers and leaders.
The volunteers cleaned 7 buildings, including bunk beds, sweeping floors, organizing 11 kitchens, and other special projects. The dust collection system for the woodworking shop was serviced.
Devotions, singing, walks on the beach, outings to Baskin Robbins, Carolina Opry, and Lee's Seafood Restaurant provided additional opportunities for fun and fellowship. The trip theme song was "Pine Tree".
The trip was a meaningful and bonding experience for all. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve this well deserving camp. For more information about the Garden City Chapel Camp, go to www.gardencitychapel.com.
